How to Restore from Windows File History when the computer died

Step-by-Step

If the File History running on the NAS, try to find out the location of the path by going directly on mapped drive of that NAS.

\\{whatever-the-path-initially\{machine_username}\{machine_name}\Configuration\Config1.xml

Open with Notepadd+ or notepad and locate the Target section.

<Target>
<TargetName></Target/Name>
<TargetURL>\\192.168.XXX.XXX\data\Backups\{machine_name}\{username}\</TargetURL>

Noted that the TargetURL path.

If you plugin to the external harddisk, ensure the File History is off.

On the right handside, click the Select drive option.




Click the Add network location.

Enter the path. Based on the note above.

\\192.168.XXX.XXX\data\Backups\{MACHIINE_NAME}\{username}\

Click Select Folder button.

Select the network disk and check the I want to use a previous backup on this File History drive option.




Click OK button

Click Yes button.

Turn off the File History straighaway.

You should be access the previous backup.

Behaviours:
If the restoration is not responding via Copying file, open Windows Explorer and access the shared and this will not responding then closed the explorer. 
This will reset the Windows Explorer and Windows taskbars starting with just the START button and search appeared and eventually it will restore the normal taskbar.
This behaviour is due to the NAS has a legacy protocol. 

Environment

  • Dell Desktop Optiplex running in Windows 10 where have access to mapped drive of Apple AirPort shared. This machine is also used to restore the file from File History.
  • Apple AirPort (NAS)
